most people can lose between 3 to 9
percent of their body weight
comfortably. For someone overweight at approximately 170 lbs, a weight loss of 12-14lbs over a few months is definitely achievable AND sustainable. This could lead to a drop in blood pressure by at least 10 mmHg. It seems that with Blood Pressure (especially High Blood Pressure), a substantial drop in weight could make the difference between needing some medication and drugs or not needing theme at all. Even if they are still required, the likelihood of needing several drugs is reduced. It isn’t rocket science to assume that one of the best ways to lose weight is to combine a sensible combination of diet and exercise. Exercise needs to be started at a low level, short walks for example, especially if you are out of condition and increased in manageable amounts slowly. There is a real danger with exercise of getting too enthusiastic too early and actually causing more harm than good if you are not careful. The golden rule here is that if you have any doubts whatsoever about the exercise regime you are about to embark upon then consult your doctor or Medical Practitioner at the earliest available opportunity. Likewise, any dietary changes should be introduced and monitored slowly. Lets be honest you are effecting major lifestyle change that is achievable but only if you take it seriously and make it sustainable. Crash Diets don’t work. They usually leave you feeling worse off than you were when you started and you end up giving up completely more out of depression than anything else. This can actually result in you increasing your weight as your diet then gets out of control and you start to pile on the pounds again. Another thing to be wary of when embarking upon an exercise regime is that be prepared for a modest rise in your weight initially and this is to be expected if not encouraged. This is primarily as the body converts fat tissue to muscle. Muscle tissue is heavier than fat but any
slight gain in this aspect of your weight
programme should be countered by a
corresponding loss of weight as your body
sheds fluid levels.
