High Blood
Pressure and Heart Damage.
Heart damage is equally serious. Changes in
ECG (Electrocardiogram) readings may
indicate the heart is having difficulty
pumping against increased pressure in the
vascular system. As the need for more blood
develops, the heart muscles will enlarge and
thicken, causing heart failure.
High Blood Pressure and Eye Disease
Eye complications that can occur include a
leakage of blood from very tiny blood
vessels into the back of the eye .The
physician can directly examine the back of
the eye with an ophthalmoscope. This allows
a physician or ophthalmologist to see this
leakage and any spasms of the blood vessels.
The presence of other conditions heightens
the need to treat hypertension.
Risk Factor complications.
Treatment with drugs is often indicated for
people with the following complicating risk
factors:
High Blood Cholesterol: People with High
Blood cholesterol levels face a greater risk
of heart disease than do others. The
relationship appears to be very direct: The
higher the blood cholesterol rises then so
does the risk of high blood pressure. The
optimum level of cholesterol in the blood
that is desirable is less than 200 mg dl.
Smoking
Bottom line here folks is that people who
smoke face a higher risk of coronary disease
than those who don’t. The reason? The reason
is that smoking increases both the systolic
and diastolic blood pressures.
Diabetes
Diabetes constitutes an increased risk both
directly as a disease that damages blood
vessels and thereby increases the the
dangers of various types of cardiovascular
disease, and indirectly, as a disease that
requires careful medical monitoring in its
own right.
Heredity
Depending upon your Family history, a family
history of complications due to Hypertension
is extremely significant (as all good
Insurance or Loan Application forms will
tell you if you look under subsection 53
page 9 in the smallest print etc). The
presence of these complications within a
family indicates a genetic track record and
statistics bear this out. For those with a
family history of Hypertension that
threshold from which complications start
through High Blood Pressure tends to be much
lower then for those who don't have such a
history.
Obesity
Amongst the most lethal and serious causes
or contributory factors for High Blood
Pressure is being overweight. Weighing more
than you should is a major risk factor in
the onset of High Blood Pressure. This in
turn can then lead (and quite often does) to
strokes, cardiovascular disease, heart
disease, kidney disease and eye disease.
Incidences of High Blood Pressure with any
of the aforementioned diseases means that
control of your High Blood Pressure in these
circumstances is actually imperative.
Age
Blood pressure in elderly people has to be
measured with extreme care as quite often
they can suffer from vascular and
arterial stiffness. Many elderly people can
teach many a younger person in the
discipline of certain aspects of lifestyle
change and modifications. Perhaps this has
more to due with a more impending
understanding of their mortality that
younger people tend to discard.
Pregnancy
It is essential for an Pregnant women to
follow (to the letter) the instructions and
orders given to them by their doctors or
obstetricians whilst they are pregnant.
Untreated or unbserved High Blood Pressure
whilst they are pregnant can lead to
potential troubles for both Mother and Child
